二〇一七年にはこの日本でも多くのシンポジウムや講演会などが企画されたが、その多くは、ロシア革命の世界史的意義を十分に評価したものであるとは言いがたいものだった。むしろ、ロシア革命否定の世界的流れに沿ったものが多かった。本シンポジウムの基本的スタンスはそのようなものとは一線を画す。世界資本主義がますますその暴力的相貌を明らかにしている今日、ロシア革命の世界史的意義を改めて見直し、その生きた教訓を汲みつくすことは、二一世紀に生きるわれわれの義務であると考える。本書がその一助になれば幸いである。（「本書の出版にあたって」より）
