坂本大樹は八州製鉄柔道部員。学生柔道選手権で優勝した日本柔道界のホープだ。彼は喫茶店で大学時代の先輩・高木を待っていた。高木はかつて一本背負いでならした名選手だが、現在はなぜか柔道から身を引き、神奈川県警の一刑事として生活している。大樹との約束をうっかり忘れていた高木は、6時間後に待ち合わせの場所に行き、ずっと待ち続けていた大樹の素直さに驚く。一本背負いという技にこだわる大樹は、自分の柔道を世界に通用するレベルに引き上げるため、高木にコーチを依頼する。高木はリスクの多い“一本背負い”に執着するなと諭すが…。
