Don't be fooled (heh) by the cover... This man prizes you above his own life and ambitions.
Because of how the first track begins, I thought at first that Cain would be a ワガママ-style entitled crown prince. But as the story progresses, you can see how much the heroine has impacted him and how much he loves her as a result.
There are two endings, a bad and a happy one (recommended to listen in this order that the tracks are organized in because I cry everytime I listen to the bad ending... And then cry again when I listen to the end of the happy ending which references lines from the bad ending in a totally different context...) Regardless of the ending, Cain's love for the heroine surpasses his hopes for both himself and even the future of the empire... Whichever path you choose to take, he'll be with you until the end of the line and beyond.
In terms of characterization, I also really liked that Cain doesn't lose his scheming edge in either ending (if I'm interpreting things right?). Knowing his beloved's temperament well, he just chooses to hide some of his more... Drastic actions a little better. On the other hand, aligning with the otome game convention of maxing out points with a romantic interest, it'd be interesting if the heroine's choice itself reflects the level of love and trust between them - therefore causing differences in Cain's actions too. After all, it would be unrealistic for someone who's lived in a political whirlpool for his entire life like Cain to suddenly find an entirely saintlike way to rule without any bloodshed, wouldn't it?
The circle creator is also uploading the cast talk and short stories which you can find linked on their socials, so this is definitely worth the price for 2h within the original work itself...
Also, a third and final(?) installation to this trilogy is apparently in the works, featuring a jester/fool as the male protagonist!
