On her way home from work, the protagonist Kaori, a woman with a predisposition to being easily possessed by spirits, meets Subaru, a man who claims he can eat spirits.
In order to pinpoint the cause of her easily possessable constitution, Subaru asks Kaori if she has experienced anything particularly odd. In response, she tells him about a "recurring dream" which she has. To which, seeming to have realized something... Subaru draws near to Kaori.
"It'll be alright. I will protect you."
