Bertram, Evelyn's vexing, gay childhood friend, and an equally unpleasant and feminine French noble named Lucien...
Neither of these men would make a suitable husband to Evelyn, and it's causing her undue stress. On a trip to the market, however, she runs into Lucien, dressed in women's clothing.
They have a fun day out doing some sightseeing, and gradually get to know each other better.

Even so, Lucien hasn't given up on making her his wife, and starts to grope her in full view of the townsfolk.
With so many men watching, Evelyn must be humiliated...
When she's left alone in the forest as the sun starts to go down, somebody else appears... but who?

The story is set in 12th century England.
It's a complicated romantic comedy set in an era where sexuality was repressed.

Evelyn

The main character.
She's hated men since she was turned down at a young age.
However, she was never able to forget her feelings for the man responsible, Bertram.
Despite losing her chastity, she's still in high spirits after Bertram's proposal of a mutually beneficial fake marriage.
Bertram

Evelyn's suitor.
He's gay and an advocate of Hedonist philosophy.
He proposes to Evelyn as a means to escape being sent to a monastery.
As a gay man, he's uninterested in women and will only make love to Evelyn.
Lucien

Evelyn's suitor.
He possesses a deep love for himself, and despite his appearance is very proactive.
A strikingly beautiful young man, he's scheming to steal Evelyn away to spite Bertram.
