Only, what if the protagonist Gregor Sa*sa was a young girl,
and instead of becoming a bug, she was a dog?

It would thus read: Chihaya awoke that morning to discover she was a dog.

Her family took it in such stride you would think she had never been human.
She was chained in the back garden and contemplated the future of a "dog's life",
whereupon a male dog came to make her acquaintance.
The beast eagerly mounted Chihaya, and for the collar on her neck she could not flee...
